Constitution & purpose

The Makutano Institute is a non-profit association created in January 2020. Its purpose is to inspire the development of African regional economies through the production of collective economic intelligence — studies, analyses, periodicals.

Mission

The Makutano Institute is the scientific counterpart of the Makutano business network. It mobilizes the proven expertise of the Network around the major strategic questions of the sub-region.

Impact, sustainability and the common good

The Institute's work is governed by three principles: delivering measurable impact on public policy, sustaining issues over the long term, and orienting action toward the pan-African common good.

Publications

The Institute produces four major editorial families: the RABA / ARBI, the Makutano Analyses, the commissioned Studies and the Working papers. Each publication follows a rigorous editorial protocol.

Governance

The Makutano Institute is led by a scientific board that validates the editorial line and sets the research agenda. The chair is held by the Network's founder, Nicole Sulu.
