Meeting with Doctor Muyembe

A fruitful conversation between Doctor Jean-Jacques Muyembe, Director of the Biomedical Research Institute of the DRC, Felly Samuna, CEO of Congo Call Center, and Nicole Sulu. For Mr Muyembe, the COVID-19 crisis has highlighted the glaring shortage of health infrastructure in the DRC. While this finding is not new, it appears that the public authorities now have a “willingness to tackle the problem” and to make it an absolute priority. The Professor also stressed the importance of genuinely integrating the Congolese private sector into the strategy adopted and insisted that those involved in communication in the DRC, and Makutano in particular, fight against the “fake news” circulating around the hashtag#covid19 that undermine the establishment of a coherent response policy. This key theme of healthcare system reform, its financing and the mobilisation of the private sector, including insurance, will be on the agenda of the 6th edition of Makutano.
